Intervention

A philosophy central to my work is that most students are capable of reaching their full potential if granted sufficient time and guidance.  It's recognized that underprivileged populations are over-represented in special education, and access to customized academic and behavioral interventions can help restore balance.

Reading

Learning a hierarchy of reading skills presents unique challenges to many students.  My approach to fostering reading comprehension is founded in the researched-based method of Socratic Questioning.  This methodology provides a basis for developing critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and analytic skills.  Students eventually understand that reading is not merely about sounding out words, but rather provides one of the richest contexts to experience the sum of human knowledge.

Behavior

It has become evident over the last decade that our students are increasingly witness to violence, traumatic events, and general hardship.  Fortunately, our students are also very resilient.  My approach to behavior intervention involves identifying the underlying motivations for the behavior, and remedying maladaptive behaviors with research-based, therapeutic techniques.
